What happens if my shift is extended?

Written by Kyle

Sometimes a business may need workers to stay beyond the originally scheduled end time.

Do I have to stay?

No. Agreeing to a shift extension is always voluntary. You are not obligated to stay beyond your original shift end time. However, if you do agree to stay, the additional hours will be reflected in your pay.

Ensure you remain clocked in during any shift extension to guarantee payment for the additional hours worked.

How is extended time paid?

You will be paid for all time worked, including the extended period, at your agreed shift rate. If the extension pushes you into overtime territory (e.g., over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week), overtime rates will apply where required by law. See: How Overtime Pay is Calculated.

Accurate timesheet recording is crucial to ensure you are paid correctly for all hours worked.

How does the extended time get recorded?

If you stay beyond the scheduled end time, the business will update the shift end time in the system, or you will clock out at the actual time you finish. Your pay will be calculated based on your actual clock-out time. You can also use the app to clock out at the actual end time if it differs from the scheduled time. If you need to stay past your scheduled clock-out time, coordinate with your on-site supervisor for any necessary clock-out corrections.

What if I wasn't paid for the extra time?

If your pay does not reflect the hours you worked, contact Traba Support and include the shift date, location, and the time you actually worked.
