What is a paid backup?

  • Paid Backups is a shift opportunity offered on Traba where you serve as a backup worker and receive guaranteed payment if you show up to the shift early and with your location turned on.

  • Payment Amount is set based on the shift type and location but usually is between $10-$50. This will be shown on the shift details page in the Traba app.

How does it work?

  • Show up to the shift 15 minutes early with your location turned ON, and wait outside the shift in the parking lot or arrival area.

  • If all the scheduled workers show up to the shift, we will let you know that you are not needed in the app, you can go home and you will be paid the backup pay amount.

  • If you are needed, you will be notified in the app, you will clock in, work the full shift, and receive the normal shift amount

How to Prepare before the shift?

  • You will see on the shift in your schedule a blue badge that indicates you’re a paid backup.

  • You should prepare for a paid backup shift as though you are going to fully work the shift.

  • Check the address, attire, and shift requirements.

  • Confirm that you are going to the shift inside the Traba app 2 hours before your shift.

  • Show up 15 minutes early.

What to do when you arrive at the shift?

  • Arrive early, click “I’m here on the shift details page, and wait for further instructions from us inside the app.”

  • When you click, “I’m here” the Traba Ops team will be notified and will update your status in the app.

  • You should wait in the parking lot or outside the shift. Do not go into the shift area or try to contact the supervisor.

  • You will see a waiting screen, with a countdown from 25 minutes until after the shift start time. You will receive a notification by the end of the timer.

How will I know if I am needed to work the shift?

  • If you are needed, you will receive a text and push notification telling you that you are needed and have been added to the shift. Your screen in the app will shift to the Start Shift Screen. At this point, you should go inside the shift, clock in and start working.

How will I know if I am not needed to work the shift?

  • If you are not needed for the shift, you will be notified through the app with a “Thanks for Waiting” screen. You can go home and you will be paid the backup amount for the shift.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What happens if I do not get notified and the timer expires?

  • If the timer expires, you will be notified that you are not needed on the shift and be paid the backup amount. You will always receive a notification about your status on the shift. If you leave the shift location prior to receiving a notification, you will not be paid for the shift. It is always better to cancel your shift as soon as possible.

What happens if I am late to the shift?

  • If you are late to the shift, you are no longer guaranteed to be paid for being a backup. Showing up early is extremely important for backup shifts. Being late can result in cancellations of your backup shift and payment status will be up to Traba’s operations team.

Do I need to have my location on?

  • Having your location turned on and shared with Traba is a requirement for being a paid backup. Traba needs to verify location data in order to verify that you were on site for the shift and ready to work. If you do not have your location on, you are not allowed to be a paid backup and may result in a cancellation without pay if we cannot determine that you are at the location.

What happens if I need to cancel my paid backup shift?

  • If you need to cancel your paid backup shift, you need to do so in the app like any other shift on Traba. Canceling within 18 hours of the shift will count as a late cancellation and hurt your metrics. It is always better to cancel your shift as soon as possible.

What happens if I no- show a paid backup shift?

  • If you no-show a paid backup shift, you will be suspended from Traba for 7 days.

When will I receive my payment?

  • If you are not needed as a paid backup, your paid backup payment will process immediately and be paid out either by instant pay or standard pay, whichever you have designated as your preferred payment method. If you are needed for the shift, you will be paid after the shift exactly the same as a normal shift.

Do I get both the backup pay and the shift pay if I am needed to work?

  • No. You will either receive the paid backup payment if you are not needed or work the shift and make the full shift amount. You will not receive both payments.
