My background check was rejected, what do I do now?

Why was my background check rejected?

Traba uses a third-party provider called Checkr to run background checks. If your background check was rejected, it is because the results contained information that does not meet Traba's eligibility requirements. Common reasons include:

  • Certain criminal convictions within a specified time period

  • Identity verification issues

  • Discrepancies in the information provided

What can I do?

  1. Check your email. When your background check is processed, Checkr sends an email with the reason for rejection. Check your spam/junk folder if you haven't received it.

  2. Log into Checkr. Visit https://candidate.checkr.com/login to review the details of your background check.

  3. Dispute an error. If you believe the information in your background check is incorrect, you have the right to dispute it under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). You can initiate a dispute directly through Checkr's platform.

  4. Contact support. If your dispute with Checkr is resolved and your report is updated, contact Traba support with documentation so we can review your account status.

Can I reapply?

In most cases, if your background check is rejected due to an ineligible criminal history, you cannot reapply to work through Traba at this time. If you believe there was an error, follow the dispute process above.

What if the records are accurate, but I want to appeal?

If the records in your background check are accurate but you feel your situation warrants a closer look — for example, if an offense is older than 7 years, was expunged, or there are mitigating circumstances — you can contact Traba support and explain your situation. Appeals are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed, but we do consider them.
